    Description and Responsibilities

    Provide support and strategic direction to operations management through leadership and implementation of HSE programs, procedures, and education initiatives focused on compliance assurance, incident reduction, risk mitigation, and Americas Region corporate initiatives.

    • Support business by serving as subject matter expert in assigned region through interpreting regulations and providing guidance on the development and implementation of HSE initiatives.
    • Responsible for communicating and executing the HSE strategic initiatives within assigned region.
    • Develop appropriate strategies for implementation of new or revised regulations in conjunction with Americas Region corporate initiatives.
    • Design and document procedures for adherence to Americas Region HSE policies and local regulations.  Work with sites to review and revise on a periodic basis.
    • Assure compliance to internal HSE policies and applicable local regulations through site visits, process reviews, and development of corrective actions with site management.
    • Develop and deliver HSE education in support of policies and/or initiatives where applicable within the assigned business unit.
    • Support sites in the development of industrial hygiene (IH) monitoring plans within assigned region.  Monitors sampling procedures, reviews IH reports, and develops corrective action plans, where applicable, with site management and engineering function.
    • Responsible for talent management, development programs, and performance appraisals of site HSE staff within assigned region.
    • Mentor site HSE staff within assigned region to ensure appropriate leadership competencies will be developed.
    • Support facilities during inspections, communications, and other interactions with regulatory agencies.
    • Communicate HSE incidents and corrective actions in a timely, thorough, and effective manner to assure understanding within assigned region.
    • Participate on project teams to assure appropriate level of HSE review during design, install, and start up process.  Includes partnering with Engineering, Operations, and Quality functions to ensure integration of HSE elements into design process.
    • Lead or participate in investigations of serious incidents within assigned region.
    • Monitor business unit HSE KPIs and assist sites in attaining their HSE Performance Targets.  Where appropriate, develop corrective and preventive action plans in conjunction with site and/or business unit operations management.
    • Partner with internal and/or external legal counsel regarding workers compensation claims, regulatory inspections, and other HSE matters, as necessary.
    • Develop and execute HSE integration plans for acquisitions within assigned region.

    Qualifications

    • BS/MS from an accredited institution in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry or related field.
    • Minimum 7-10 years of health, safety and environmental experience.
    • Knowledge and experience with NFPA and ANSI and systems such as ISO14001.
    • Change management.
    • Business performance management.
    • Broad manufacturing understanding and knowledge.
    • Budget management and control.
