    Description and Responsibilities

    • Creates capital proposal including scope document, cost estimate, and timelines for management review and approval.
    • Upon approval of capital projects, manages projects to meet all technical requirements while assuring they stay on-time and within budget. These responsibilities includes the development of a detailed scope of work, creation of equipment specifications, finalizing purchasing documents, creating and maintaining detailed timelines, expediting and receiving material and equipment, and commissioning activities.
    • Develops project specifications and systems by making calculations, preparing process flow diagrams (PFD’s), piping and instrumentation drawings (P&ID’s), site and floor plans, elevation drawings, utilities matrices, and other project documentation as applicable.  
    • Leads the selection of contractors/vendors and supervises same in actual design and specifications of installations.
    • Conducts feasibility studies for new or existing systems. Presents information to and participates in team responsible for determining the most cost effective approach for a project.
    • Directs the integration of technical activities and equipment in order to ensure that the desired project results satisfy initial requirements.
    • Keeps abreast of new technology and equipment and subsequently develops projects to drive process improvement. Key technologies include wet blending, fermentation, hydrolysis, pasteurization, sterilization, centrifugation, filtration, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, evaporation, lypholization, spray drying, sifting, blending, milling, packaging, and clean-in-place (CIP) systems.
    • Advises and recommends improvements in the area of operational safety for a project. Responsible for ensuring and promoting operational safety, environmental protection and employee health/industrial hygiene within a project. Supports completion of hazard analysis studies (PHA’s/HAZOP’s) for existing and new processes.
    • Assures compliance with Kerry’s sanitary design standards. Assists in the sanitary design groups to complete hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP) studies and assure current good manufacturing practices (cGMP’s) compliance.
    • Conducts start-up field testing and troubleshoots new, modified, and current systems and equipment related to a project. Creates installation and operational qualification documents (IQ/OQ) and implements IQ’s/OQ’s upon management approval. Assists with the completion of cleaning qualification (CQ). Trains personnel responsible for operation of equipment.
    • Develops Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to detail operations of new equipment or revises SOP’s to reflect changes to operations as a result of modifications to existing equipment.
    • Writes, debugs, and troubleshoots process control logic using Kerry standard software including: programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), human-machine interfaces (HMI’s), and reporting, alarming, and trending software. Assists site engineering in the troubleshooting of plant instrumentation.
    • Develops capacity models for existing processing lines and identifies bottlenecks that restrict capacity. Using this model, suggests projects that can lead improve capacity on the line.
    • Provides engineering support to R&D activities during pilot and production trials.
    • Using continuous improvement tools, leads projects to debottleneck processes, improve throughput, reduce waste, and decrease costs. 
    • Provides guidance to appropriate individuals regarding preventative maintenance, may recommend schedules for equipment repair in order to meet existing and changing requirements including modified production rates that influence equipment operation.
    • Assists in training Production Supervisors, Team Leaders and operators in the proper operation of equipment and prepares various instruction manuals.
    • Assists in the revisions to Standard Manufacturing Procedures (SMP’s) to reflect changes necessitated by equipment modifications.
    • Creates and modifies drawings using AutoCAD.
    • Performs other duties as required.


    • Minimum BS in Chemical Engineering with at least 5 years of project management experience in the food, pharmaceutical or chemical industry.
    • Expereince designing tanks, pasteurizers, sterilizers, heat exchangers, pumps etc
    • Well versed in the development of project schedules, cost estimates, PFD’s, P&ID’s, site and elevation drawings, and utilities requirements.
    • Must have experience in clean-in-place systems
    • AutoCAD experience– preferred

    • Minimal Travel required

    • More specific parameters related to this position will be defined by the current project, including but not limited to -- budget, contacts, amount of travel required, functional accountability.
    • Comply with federal, state, local and Company rules and regulations regarding safety, health and environmental matters.
