    Description and Responsibilities

      • We are looking for a Controls/Maintenance Technician for our Kentwood, Michigan plant. The ideal candidate will improve plant productivity and equipment reliability by eliminating potential equipment failures and line stoppages through effective troubleshooting, preventative maintenance practices, and machine up time improvement activities.  The candidate will assist in Electrical and mechanical repairs, PM's and upgrades, building PLC and control systems, make program changes, and new equipment instalation start up activities.
        • Foster a successful, accountable 1Kerry oriented work environment
        • Responsible for following all applicable Safety, Quality and Food safety procedures and policies
        • Obtain forklift/scissor lift certifications specific to Kerry (training provided)
        • Use Kerry “MVP” CMMS system to input and schedule work, complete PM’s and corrective activities  
        • Works with department staff to manage PLC programs, drawings, parts books,  instructional manuals and special procedures, from electronic files or other sources
        • Possess an understanding of electrical systems, motor controls and process control instrumentation. This includes, but is not limited to 480 Volt 3 Phase motors, electrical power distribution, 120 Volt control systems, PLC systems, and 4-20ma analog instrumentation
        • Install conduit and wiring as needed for motors, lighting, and control devices such as valves, limit switches, photocells, etc.
        • Use a PC and required software to view PLC Ladder Logic for troubleshooting and interpreting equipment operation and control requirements
        • Must have advanced knowledge of testing, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems
        • Knowledge of discrete I/O devices such as photocells, limit switches, inductive and capacitive proximity switches, push buttons, current sensing relays, message displays, Panel Views 1000
        • Basic mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic, general fabricating and/or machining
        • Keeps the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager properly informed on all abnormal or critical situations
        • Maintain the work area and equipment in clean and orderly condition
        • Able to work flexible work schedule with weekend coverage and off shift call in potential
        • Other duties as assigned


    • High School graduate or GED required with five or more years of experience in industrial electrical/mechanical food processing
    • Degree in technical field, Trade school or advanced Maintenance training preferred
    •  Must be able to communicate in English at a level to facilitate the understanding and terminology of the job

      • Ability to comprehend and follow written and/or verbal procedures or instructions
      • Good understanding of food production and packaging
      • Have a good working knowledge of personal computers, programs (word, excel) and databases
      • Demonstrated organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to keep multiple jobs in control
      • General mechanic, fabricating, boiler operation, refrigeration, welding (Tig, Arc and Sanitary), plumbing (air, water, steam and hydraulics), with electrical being a plus
      • Strong understanding of PLC’s, automation controls and Electronics
